Richard D. Sikkema, 99, of Sanford, Florida passed away on June 9, 2017. He was born on April 30, 1918 in Savanna, Illinois to the late Louis W. and Dorothy E. (Bennett) Sikkema. Richard was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Navy serving in World War II and the Korean War. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Medal along with many more medals and commendation in his 20 year career. Richard D. Sikkema, 99, of Sanford, Florida passed away on June 9, 2017. He was born on April 30, 1918 in Savanna, Illinois to the late Louis W. and Dorothy E. (Bennett) Sikkema. Richard was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Navy serving in World War II and the Korean War. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Medal along with many more medals and commendation in his 20 year career. Richard and his beloved late wife, Esther, were the founding fathers of two churches; a church in Sebring, FL and The Woodbury Presbyterian Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther; his brother, William (Carole) and sister, Henrietta, and 2 children from a previous marriage; Richard (Kate) Tatak and Sheri Babiak. Survivors include many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at The Woodbury Presbyterian Church, 1501 Woodbury Road, Orlando at 1:00 pm on July 8, 2017.
